CitiFinancial Chief Honored with Industry Award
WASHINGTON, October 19, 2012 – Mary McDowell, president and chief executive officer of OneMain Financial/CitiFinancial, has been honored with the American Financial Services Association’s (AFSA) Distinguished Service Award (DSA).
McDowell was one of two executives to receive the 2012 DSA during AFSA’s 96th Annual Meeting in Chicago. The association’s highest honor, the DSA is given to individuals who have contributed significantly to the industry and the association’s growth on a national level, advanced its mission and objectives, and raised its image.
As 2010-2011 AFSA chair, McDowell helped shape the association’s policies on a number of critical industry issues, including overseeing a task force to help the industry anticipate, respond to, and prepare for regulatory changes under the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act. McDowell has been a member of AFSA’s Board of Directors and Executive Committee since 2007. Currently, she serves on the Investment Policy Committee and AFSA Education Foundation Board.
McDowell joined Citi in 1991, and has served as chief financial officer for businesses including CitiFinancial, CitiFinancial Mortgage Company, Citicorp Trust Bank and the insurance business now known as Citi Assurance. In 2003, she was named president of CitiFinancial Auto. In July 2006, McDowell joined CitiFinancial North America (CFNA) as president and chief operating officer, responsible for managing the operations of the entire branch network. She was promoted to president and CEO of CitiFinancial in 2007. She became CEO of OneMain Financial in 2011 when the full service network of CFNA was rebranded.
Prior to joining Citi, she spent 11 years with Ernst and Young, serving clients in the financial services industry, through audit, tax and consulting services, including due diligence for acquisitions.
In addition to her work with AFSA, McDowell serves on the Board of Directors of the Living Classrooms Foundation, whose mission is to strengthen communities and inspire young people to achieve their potential through hands-on education and job training. She is an avid supporter of United Way, both in Texas and Central Maryland.
Based in Washington, D.C., AFSA (www.afsaonline.org) is the national trade association for the consumer credit industry, protecting access to credit and consumer choice.
