MoneySKILL Receives High Marks From Teachers

Positive comments stream from teachers in the 40 states and two countries who have signed up for the free, online personal finance curriculum of the AFSAEF.

Teachers in various states and foreign countries including Guam and Germany have registered to use MoneySKILL, a free, online personal finance curriculum from the American Financial Services Association Education Foundation (AFSAEF) that's aimed at the millions of high school students who graduate each year without an understanding of credit cards, budgeting, insurance or other money management fundamentals. At latest count, more than 525 teachers have registered to use MoneySKILL with May 2004 registrations reaching a record breaking 193; 835 students have completed all the modules.

MoneySKILL has received many positive comments from teachers such as Kenneth McKinnon, an economics teacher at Springville Griffith Institute High School near Buffalo, NY. The program, said McKinnon, allows him "to add an extensive personal finance component to my class and still teach an economics class that focuses on the essential of our economy." Teachers also like MoneySKILL because it makes the learning process more enjoyable by providing hands-on exercises and activities, said Susie Irvine, AFSAEF president and chief executive officer.
