Wisconsin Educators Encouraged to Learn About Building Native Communities and MoneySKILL Programs
Educators at Menominee Indian School District (MISD) had the opportunity to participate in MoneySKILL training as part of the Building Native Communities—Train the Trainer workshop—on December 1-2, 2004.
Training for MoneySKILL, AFSAEF's interactive financial computer program for students, was held December 2 at the Adult Learning Center in Keshena, Wisconsin. Harley Davidson Motor Company provided the financial support to train Wisconsin teachers.
"This is a great learning activity for educators," said MISD Superintendent Wendell Waukau. "This program is designed so it can easily be woven into the educators' daily curriculum to help provide the necessary financial literacy for students to prepare for the real world."
During the training, educators received background information on MoneySKILL and worked with the program to familiarize themselves with it. They also learned ways to incorporate it into their curriculum. "This is important because it allows the educators to experience what the students will be learning and also provides the educators with unique ways to get the students involved," said Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions–Director of the Office of Financial Literacy Dave Mancl.
