MoneySKILL Proving to be Popular Among Teachers
So far, more than 800 new teachers have registered to use MoneySKILL, the AFSA Education Foundation's online personal finance curriculum for high school students during the 2005-2006 academic school year. In addition, 6,000 new students have experienced the course during this time period, with more than 2,000 students completing all 34 modules.
Teacher training sessions have proven to be the most effective way to reach teachers. This year, "how-to" teacher training workshops will be offered to a variety of groups in several states. These workshops are being coordinated with state Jumpstart Coalitions and state Business Education Associations. Teachers participated in a state-wide training session in South Carolina in February and in Arizona during April. Ohio, Indiana, Texas, West Virginia, Iowa, Kentucky, Missouri, Illinois, Vermont, Washington, New York, Nevada and Wisconsin are among the states where sessions will be held during the summer and fall. More states will be added as conference plans are finalized.
