More than 400 people attended the 23rd Annual Independents Conference & Exposition that was held recently with the theme "Exploring Opportunities in a Challenging Environment." The conference was held at the Westin La Cantera Resort in San Antonio.

Guest speakers included former television star and congressman Fred Grandy (R-IA) and All-American Quarterback Archie Manning. Other sessions included workshops on ID theft, bankruptcy, a FACT Act update, McGladrey survey results and a panel discussion on competing with the "Big Guys."

The conference's exposition attracted more than 35 organizations. This was the second year that the AFSA Board of Directors convened during this conference. Board members were able to attend the welcoming party with exhibitors on the first night along with the opening general session.
