MEETINGS/CONFERENCES
Sixth Annual Conference for European Fixed Income Investors Held
On April 26 and 27, the city of Amsterdam hosted AFSA's annual conference for European fixed-income investors. Seventeen finance companies made formal presentations during the two-day event, many of which were accompanied, as well, by a number of small group discussions. DBRS, Fitch Ratings, Moody's and Standard & Poor's sponsored the event along with 19 capital markets. More than 200 people attended, out of which almost a third were investors and analysts. Participating executives represented ten countries, including Japan.
Bryan Binyon, 2006 conference chair and vice president and treasurer with American General Finance Corporation, kicked off the opening session. The keynote address was delivered by Mickey Levy, Chief Economist with Bank of America. On the second day, all four rating agencies participated in panel discussions that focused on specific market sectors.
In addition, the conference provided significant time for interaction between investors and finance companies; in fact, small group discussions were made available on both days and at all hosted lunches and breakfast. The format, location, overall program and investor turnout seemed to work well for this event. Plans are in the works to return to Amsterdam next April. Glenn Votek, executive vice president & treasurer with CIT Group Inc., will chair the 2007 European Conference.
