Registrations are still coming in as AFSA prepares for this year's 90th Annual Meeting & Leadership Conference in Washington, DC. The theme is "Managing Change," and it is designed to meet the growing challenges of the CEOs and senior managers of AFSA members and provide opportunities for networking. There is still time to register! Everyone should consider attending as the trade group closes a significant chapter in its own history, and the industry looks to a future of new challenges and opportunities.
Thomas Hallman, the AFSA Chairman of the Board and Vice President Specialty Finance with the CIT Group, Inc., will open the conference with the "State of the Union" for the financial services industry. In addition, the keynote speaker will be former speaker of the House Newt Gingrich—always thought-provoking. In fact, Gingrich has emerged as one of the world's "thought" leaders.
Gingrich will be followed by political pollster Frank Luntz. The luncheon speaker on Monday is the well-known George Mason University Professor of Economics, Dr. Walter Williams, who will deliver his presentation on "The Role of Government in a Free Society." Tuesday morning opens with a federal and state legislative update panel. In addition, Kevin Elliott, senior vice president with Hill & Knowlton will lead a panel on "Risk Management, Communications and Reputation Management". The conference will close with former TV star, U.S. Congressman (R-IA) and CEO of Goodwill Industries—Fred Grandy. He will deliver a presentation on "Doing Well and Doing Good: Serving Something Larger than Ourselves."
