The State Government Affairs Committee (SGA) compromises four subcommittees: Vehicle Finance, Cards, Mortgage Lending and Personal Loans. Each subcommittee reviews legislation, analyzes legislative trends and political intelligence, and implements industry strategies by engaging lobbyists, public relations professionals and legal and research experts. Committee-generated work products include dozens of talking points on key issues such as: credit scoring, data breach legislation, dealership financing, installment lending, mortgage loan originator licensing, interchange and privacy/opt-in. Other products include white papers and research materials, weekly legislative reports, and annual/monthly enacted law tracking.
The SGA Committee meets three times per year to work on issues of common interest, share political intelligence, and develop resources for current and emerging issues. AFSA also holds its State Government Affairs Forum each year in conjunction with the National Association of Consumer Credit Administrators' (NACCA) Annual Meeting. This is a rare opportunity for companies to interact and mingle with key state regulators. The meeting features the highest caliber speakers on the top issues facing the industry.
In addition, the SGA staff actively participates in national legislator and regulator associations, including the National Association of State Legislators (NCSL), the Conference of State Bank Supervisors (CSBS), the American Association of Residential Mortgage Regulators (AARMR) and other resources to ensure the industry is represented and the benefits of the industry are known.
