M. Susie Irvine, AFSAEF President & CEO, Announces Retirement

After 21 years with the AFSA Education Foundation, president and CEO, M. Susie Irvine, has announced her retirement effective August 31, 2016. Susie has been instrumental in establishing the fine reputation of the foundation and increasing the professionalism of its many offerings. Financial literacy has been her passion for many years, and she has worked tirelessly in that arena.

Over the years, Susie has received many awards, including the prestigious Odom Award presented to her by the Jump$tart Coalition® in 2005—for “visionary” leadership. It is MoneySKILL®, though, that has been her pride and joy, and she has worked to establish it as the premier online personal finance curriculum in the nation. She has also insisted over the years that the online curriculum adapt and improve to meet the developing needs of teachers and ultimately—students.

She’s also honed the ongoing management development classes for AFSA member companies that have evolved over the years into The EDGE and the AFSA/UNC Leadership Development Program. Susie assisted in the transition of THE EDGE program to Mercer University where it has grown to record attendance - 122 students from 19 member companies in 2016. Susie also spearheaded the Foundation’s highly successful endowment campaign raising almost $7 million and ensuring the future of its financial literacy program.

Susie’s departure will create a tremendous void in leadership at the Foundation, but she plans to ensure a smooth transition and handover of her current projects. Chris Stinebert, AFSA President & CEO, will be soliciting and interviewing candidates to fill the position as close to Susie’s retirement date as possible. The officers of the foundation will interview the final candidates before submission to the AFSAEF Board. Any interested candidates are asked to contact Chris directly.

Please join us in wishing Susie all the best in this new phase of her life.
