AFSA 100 Day Tracker | Appointment Updates February 10, 2017 WHAT HAPPENED As the new administration continues to move forward with appointments, one name should be familiar to AFSA members. According to reports, Vice President Mike Pence has hired Mark Calabria as his chief economist. Calabria has spoken at several AFSA events, most recently at the Vehicle Finance Conference in January. Calabria has been the director of financial regulation studies at the Cato institute. Previously, he worked for the Senate Banking Committee, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the National Association of Realtors and the National Association of Home Builders. In related news, CNBC is reporting that the Trump administration may be looking to replace CFPB Director Richard Cordray with Brian Brooks. Before joining Fannie Mae in November 2014, Brooks was Vice Chairman of OneWest Bank – which Treasury Secretary pick Steven Mnuchin chaired. Former Rep. Randy Neugebauer and Todd Zywicki, an economist at the Mercatus Center at George Mason University and co-author of Consumer Credit and the American Economy, are also reportedly on the short list.
