AFSA 100 Day Tracker | Mulvaney Confirmed to Head OMB February 16, 2017 Today, the Senate confirmed Rep. Mick Mulvaney (R-SC) to lead the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB). The vote was 51-49. In a hearing earlier this month, Mulvaney told senators that he would support a regulatory overhaul, including opening up the regulatory review process to greater scrutiny. "...I am committed to strengthening the analytical basis for regulations, increasing the oversight of agency regulatory activity and taking a hard look at regulations already on the books," he explained. In fact, Mulvaney formerly in the House Financial Services Committee, has said he would ask the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA), a part of OMB, to take the lead on developing a specific proposal that would ensure there are meaningful reductions in regulatory burdens while maintaining important protections for all Americans. AFSA has worked well with Mulvaney since he came to Washington in seven years ago. AFSA has expressed our willingness to work with him to reduce the regulatory burden on AFSA members.
